Work Experience
Creative consultant for Ex Yugoslav TV show on Quebec ethnic TV - 1996 to date…
- I invented the show which is called ******* and speaks about how people from what used to be Yugoslavia adapt, live and succeed in Montreal. (My wife is the host and producer).
Manager, Company Name, Montreal - 1994 to date…
- Reporting to the President, my responsibilities include: supervision of the creative process for educational book-games, some writing and editing; assisting in all other aspects of business including marketing and financing.
Immigration Consultant - 1992 - 94
- Working independently, I provided help to immigrants and refugees in particular with political risk assessments and analyses of the political situation in refugee producing countries.
Diplomat in Federal Secretariat for Foreign Affairs of Ex Yugoslavia (Tito’s)
1975 - 1992
- I taught at a Diplomatic Institute
- From 78 to 82 served as third secretary in (Country) embassy in Washington DC
( provided political and economic analyses and background papers; was a visiting Prof. at several American Universities - GMU of N. Virginia in particular, where students voted me to be the best of the year)
- From 84 to 88 served as first secretary and consul in (Country) embassy in Ottawa.
- From 88 to 92 was posted in Secretariat in Belgrade. Last job: Director of the North American Department. I helped formulate and carry out a reform policy often at considerable personal risks ( American diplomats should remember,
2
among other things, that they tried for decades to introduce Peace Corps into (Country) and that I finally was the one who helped them do it; it took courage and skills to do it, for Peace Corps was branded a CIA front organization in communist system and who dared to defend it risked the same, which was a sure career killer and often way to jail). I worked closely with US diplomats and other reps. Was involved in visits by numerous US personalities - Bob Dole, Cirrus Vance, Sec. of the State Jim Baker, who made a historic visit just before the brake up of Ex Yu. I also worked on visits of heads of states and governments of many countries, and at global conferences, like meetings of the World Bank and IMF, Summit of the nonaligned countries. When US diplomats needed help, they came often to me, for they knew that I could help them get access to the minister, whom I personally knew, having served under his ambassadorship in Washington DC, and the PM whom I knew from the Uny in Zagreb. During this time I wrote several novels but published only one with the first independent publisher in Ex Yu. Other novels were judged too liberal and some outright subversive (a friendly advice was not to show them to anybody).
Researcher in International Labor Office(part of UN system), Geneva, Switzerland - 1973 - 1975
- I provided analyses of the situation in Eastern European countries. When my contract expired, I joined the Ex Yu diplomatic service, having seen what it was about and met some people who wanted to reform the system. While in Geneva, I was also a correspondent for the biggest daily in Zagreb - Vjesnik. My articles appeared in prominent places.
Attitudes and activities
I have always been motivated by desire to make my country a parliamentary democracy, having been in contact, from an early age, with foreigners at the Island of Hvar, city of Hvar, Croatia and later after working abroad. I also took inspiration from Plato who said that if "you refuse to get involved, you risk to have the power exercised over you by someone worse than yourself". I took considerable personal risks and was regarded as too liberal for a long time. It was only when reform started to be more acceptable that I was accepted too, but only until the extremists and extreme nationalists took over; because I was and still am a cosmopolitan person. It was at that point that I chose to immigrate to Canada. I was in contact with American diplomats too, but came to Canada because I had some money invested here. Now I very much wish to come to the US.
Until I was 25, I more or less regularly played water polo and soccer. I was an executive of the water polo club in Hvar and visited several European countries with this club as a player, coach and executive. I played and was involved with clubs in Geneva, Washington, Ottawa, Belgrade and now in Montreal. I spent my life in water polo and have great expertise in this field which I can teach others.
I get along well with people of different origins
and education.
